While we both fall under the queer umbrella, our experiences differ greatly. Perhaps this challenges the idea of a queer umbrella to begin with—do we really have that much in common?
But that’s beside the point.
There are troublesome trends in the gay cis community that should be noted. Here’s…
I can’t help but respond to this, for a variety of reasons.
1. Let’s stop presuming to know what the lives of all cis males are like, ok? You cannot know what everyone has had to deal with in their own lives.
2. Making fun of vaginas isn’t inherently misogynistic. By suggesting it is, you’re really just saying that all a woman is is a vagina. And I really hope you don’t believe that. If you’re not attracted to the genitals of one sex and you’re probably unfamiliar with them, it seems logical to me that you might find them gross/weird/whatever. And while I think everyone should give themselves a chance to broaden their horizons, who cares if some fag thinks vaginas are creepy so long as he doesn’t believe that by extension all girls are creepy? If a lesbian told me she thought penises were hideous looking appendages, I’d understand and I wouldn’t immediately assume that she hated all men just because she doesn’t like the way a cock looks.
3. No, being gay doesn’t absolve you of other privileges. But you know what? It probably means you’ve been discriminated against. It probably means you know what it feels like to be oppressed and have to deal with some shit in your life.
4. Not all stereotypes are negative. A lot of them are meaningless. Gay men can be stereotyped as Judy Garland-loving popper-sniffing hedonists in leather and sequins. And if you fit that stereotype, so what? How is that a bad thing?
5. Yes, I’m so sure all gay men want to touch your breasts. (eyeroll)
6. I don’t really care who is uncomfortable with me calling people bitches or sluts or cunts or whatever. It’s all about context.
7. There are very obvious parallels between the gay rights movement and the civil rights movement. As long as we acknowledge that race and sexuality are different, I don’t see the trouble in pointing this out. And I don’t know why anyone would assume that racism is over simply because you’re comparing the two.
Amie, boo, baby, chile, i wont this :DA little more information on the Sandman Slipcase set. It looks like Sandman Volume X, The Wake, which will be the last of the reprintings to come out, will also be sold WITH the Slipcase for all of them. So if you have the books so far, you can get the Slipcase then.
Also comics stores and online retailers will need to get their orders in NOW, as DC Comics will be doing these to order, so please remind your local comic shop — http://www.comicshoplocator.com/, or order online now (it’s currently $125 at Amazon, and I’m sure there are similar deals elsewhere on the web), if you want to be sure of getting one in November.
